Alabaster

Pulitzer-nominated, Kilroys-listed, all-female southern drama. Winner of the Calicchio Prize.  After a tornado barrels through town leaving nothing but death and destruction, only June and her pet goat Weezy live to tell the tale. When a prominent photographer visits to take pictures of June's scars, both are forced to reconcile the pain of loss and recovery. This all-female, darkly comic southern drama explores the meaning and purpose of art and the struggle of the lost and tortured souls that seek to create it.

Maytag Virgin

A classic love story. Audrey Cefaly’s most popular play. A classic  love story by southern regionalist Audrey Cefaly. Maytag Virgin follows Alabama school teacher Lizzy Nash and her neighbor Jack Key over the year following the tragic death of Lizzy’s husband. "For those who fear this is too heavy a play, be assured it contains plenty of laughs. For those who fear it’s a silly, romantic trifle, know that it plumbs the depths of human emotion.” ~ Florida Weekly

The Gulf

Lammy Award for Best LGBTQ Drama  The divide between Kendra and Betty mimics the very world that devours them: a vast and polarizing abyss. On a quiet summer evening, somewhere down in the Alabama Delta, Kendra and Betty troll the flats looking for red fish.  After Betty begins diagnosing Kendra’s dead-end life with career picks from What Color is Your Parachute, their routine fishing excursion takes a violent turn.

The Last Wide Open

A new musical play by Audrey Cefaly, music by Matthew M. Nielson.  A diner. 2AM. Anywhere. Lina and Roberto's lives intersect and parallel as three alternate realities unfold. The play renders the near hits and near misses that are the realities of this worn out waitress and immigrant dishwasher as well as the mystical ways the universe conspires to bring us all together.

TROUBLE is a portrait of fierce women in the small (fictional) mill town of Litman, Alabama. The play centers around struggling ex-mill worker Euba on the eve of her "unwanted" birthday party, which her mother Bernie (against Euba's express wishes) is intent on hosting, Also in the mix are mill workers Lila (8 months pregnant) and Fin (Euba's best friend), along with YoYo, a local security officer. As the birthday hour approaches, Euba is visited by a raven, sending her spiraling in search for answers to the untimely death of her father. This all-female drama attempts to traverse the landscape of family ties,  mental illness, addiction, and the trials and tribulations of motherhood.

TROUBLE is the 4th installment in regionalist Audrey Cefaly's Alabama Cycle (The GulfAlabasterMaytag Virgin), an exploration of the unsung voices, stories, and topographies of working class people in the Gulf Coast region.
